Compass Rose Expedition to the Pantanal

X

The projects conducted in the Pantanal are designed to give scientists baseline information on the status, needs, and natural history of critical keystone species and habitats. Keystone species are species that, if removed, would cause the collapse of an ecosystem.

Earthwatch Institute in partnership with Conservation International established a Conservation Research Initiative in the Pantanal. The Mission of the CRI Pantanal is to contribute to and participate in these and other regional conservation efforts through a combination of basic and applied research, scientific collaboration, partnership, and outreach programs that educate and involve regional and international communities. The outreach programs, which consist of EW-funded fellowships and follow-up events sponsored by CI and partner organizations, have included the participation of regional and international groups of teachers and students, local landowners, conservation professionals, ecotourism guides from the Pantanal, and corporate fellows.
